The Rainbow Trail opens into a garden where every butterfly glows like a little lantern — except one. A tiny butterfly has lost her glow and feels too shy to join the others.
With patience and kind words, Ben and Sophie help her discover that her glow was never really gone. A soothing story about self-confidence, encouragement and being yourself.
Lesson & theme
Encouragement & self-confidence
The tiny butterfly doesn’t need fixing — she needs encouragement. It’s a warm way to talk with children about kind words, feeling shy, and how everyone shines in their own way.
Questions to talk about together
Pick one or two after watching — there are no wrong answers.
- Why was the tiny butterfly feeling sad?
- What kind words did Ben and Sophie say to her?
- What helped the butterfly’s glow come back?
- Have you ever felt shy? What helps you feel brave?
- What makes you shine? What makes your friends shine?
Read-aloud story
The Glowing Butterfly Garden
For grown-ups to read aloud — about 4 minutes. Try pausing at each section to ask, “What do you think happens next?”
The Rainbow Trail curled through a gate made of flowers and into the most beautiful garden Ben and Sophie had ever seen.
Butterflies fluttered everywhere — and every single one glowed! Pink and gold, blue and green, like tiny lanterns dancing in the air.
One Little Butterfly
But under a daisy leaf, Sophie spotted a tiny butterfly who wasn’t glowing at all. She was sitting very still, with her wings folded tight.
“Hello,” whispered Sophie. “Why are you hiding?”
“I lost my glow,” said the tiny butterfly. “All the others shine so brightly. I don’t think I can.”
Kind Words
Ben sat down beside the daisy. “When I feel shy, my tummy feels wobbly,” he said. “Is that how you feel?”
The butterfly nodded.
“You know what?” said Sophie. “We think your wings are lovely. And you were very brave to tell us how you feel.”
Bunny gave a soft, encouraging hop. Puppy gave a gentle “woof.” Duckling quacked the quietest quack she could.
A Glow from the Inside
The tiny butterfly slowly opened her wings. And there — just at the very tips — was a soft, warm flicker of light.
“Look!” said Ben. “It was there all along.”
With every kind word, her glow grew brighter, until she rose up and danced with all the other butterflies, shining in her very own colors.
And above the garden, the Rainbow Trail sparkled onward, ready for the next adventure.
The End… for now!
